Coach Travis Nichols begins his 1st year at Zachary High School as the Strength and Conditioning Coach. Prior to ZHS, he spent 10 years as a collegiate strength coach, most recently at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Nichols was hired as the SLU Assistant Director of Sports Performance in May of 2022. At SLU, Nichols was responsible for all aspect of training for Softball and Women’s Soccer, as well as, assisting with the training of the Football program. Nichols arrived in Hammond after a three-year stint at Lamar University as the Associate Strength and Conditioning Coordinator.
While at Lamar, Nichols was responsible for all aspects of training for Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Baseball. Additionally, he assisted with the training of the Football program, which included a three month stint as the Interim Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Football. Nichols arrived in Beaumont after spending the previous year as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Olympic Sports at Missouri Southern State University.
At MSSU, Nichols was responsible for all facets of physical preparation for all 10 of MSSU’s Olympic Sports, as well as aiding in the preparation of the Football program. His time in Joplin saw Men’s Basketball, Baseball, and Women’s Track and Field reach NCAA Division II Top-25 rankings and a number of student-athletes across all sports achieve All-American and All-Conference honors.
Prior to his time at MSSU, Nichols spent four years as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. While at ULM, he was responsible for the training of Men’s Basketball, Track and Field Throwers, and aided in all facets of preparation for the Football Program.
Prior to ULM, Nichols began his career as an intern with the Louisiana State University Strength and Conditioning staff, working primarily with Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Softball, Tennis, and Cheer. Additionally, he spent a number of years training and studying under the tutelage of renowned Olympic Weightlifting coach, Gayle Hatch.
He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Association of Sports Medicine, and a Level 1 Sport Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from LSU and earned a Master of Science in Exercise Science from ULM. Travis and his wife, Alexandra, have one son, Jack.
